Salam Orient Festival – 2022
The internationally renowned kanun virtuoso and composer Sofia Labropoulou has developed her own sound from the fusion of Greek and Mediterranean folk music, classical Ottoman, medieval, experimental and contemporary music. On her new album Sisyphus (December 2020, Odradek World), the exceptional artist presents works that draw inspiration from poetry and music from different eras and geographical regions, including “The Myth of Sisyphus” and other essays by Albert Camus, Greek mythology, folk music, Turkish and Arabic music and even two songs by the Sex Pistols can be found on it.
The result is as unique as it is unmistakable, thanks to Sofia Labropoulou’s strong musical personality. The artist has recently been living in Vienna and is presenting her album “Sisyphus” for the first time with her new Viennese formation and special guest Eleni Christou from Greece as part of Salam Orient.
